Second SurvJustice Spring Soiree

On April 20, 2017 SurvJustice held its Second Annual Spring Soiree at the historic International Student House of D.C.

For our award ceremony, SurvJustice honored former Vice President Joe Biden with the Vanguard Award, for his tireless work in addressing violence against women during his political career and now through the Biden Foundation. SurvJustice also honored Jon Krakaueur with the Breaking the Silence Award for Missoula, which elevated the voices of campus sexual assault survivors struggling for justice in campus and criminal systems. Finally, SurvJustice honored Wagatwe Wanjuki with the Survivor Courage Award for her endless efforts to eradicate rape culture through activism and writing!

The awards ceremony was followed by a special dedicated performance by Stanley Cowell and his daughter Sunny that included their rendition of "Rise Up" by Andra Day.

A special thank you to special guest Wendy Davis, Founder of Deeds Not Words, for her thoughtful video commentary given her inability to attend last minue due to medical reasons.
On January 21, 2017 SurvJustice marched as an official supporter of the Women's March on Washington to support equal rights and justice for all.

Inaugural SurvJustice Spring Soiree

On April 28, 2016 SurvJustice held its Inaugural Spring Soiree at the historic International Student House of D.C.

During a very moving awards ceremony, SurvJustice honored Senator Robert P. Casey with the Vanguard Award for his work in passing the Campus SaVE Act. SurvJustice also honored Claire Gordon, formerly with Al Jazeera America, and currently with Next Week Tonight by Jon Oliver, with the Breaking the Silence Award. Finally, SurvJustice Founder Laura Dunn personally presented “Sarah” with the Survivor Courage Awardee for her ongoing struggle for justice after sexual assault on campus. The awards ceremony was followed by a special dedicated performance by Stanley Cowell and his daughter Sunny that included their rendition of  Lady Gaga’s “Until it Happens to You.”

A thank you to special guest, former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, for presenting the Vanguard Award, to HempKettleTea for providing delicious tea for our attendees, and Kamaria Jewelry for displaying its lovely jewelry and donating a portion of the proceeds to SurvJustice.
